AoC Beacon Awards see three Welsh college winners

18th November 2016

The Welsh FE sector stormed to success at the Association of Colleges Beacon Awards ceremony in Birmingham on 16th November, winning a quarter of the awards. This Welsh FE success is all the more impressive because there are hundreds of colleges in the UK and only 14 institutions in Wales.

Here are the Welsh winners:

  • Coleg Sir Gâr won the City and Guilds Award for Staff Development.
  • Bridgend College won the AQA Award for the Development of Transferable Skills.
  • Cardiff and Vale College won the Pearson Award for the Promotion and Delivery of Successful Apprenticeships.

Coleg Cambria and Cardiff and Vale College were also shortlisted for two other awards.

Iestyn Davies, Chief Executive of ColegauCymru / CollegesWales, said “The Welsh success at the Awards demonstrates how Wales is leading the way on a UK level in the development of transferable skills, staff development, and apprenticeships. These Awards come the same week that 86 entrants from Wales are competing at The Skills Show 2016, the highest amount of entrants of the four UK nations. Let's hope they secure a similar success as the colleges!
