ColegauCymru are looking for new Trustees

A post-16 education charity that promotes world-class education, training and skills outcomes for all post-compulsory learners in Wales

ColegauCymru is expanding its Board – if you’re a trustee, or former trustee and/or a champion of good governance and leadership, we’d like to hear from you.

You have the chance to join a highly motivated group of trustees who, working with the Chief Executive and his team, have made an impact in promoting and supporting the interests of its member Further Education colleges in Wales. To ensure we maintain the momentum, we are keen to broaden the Board’s range of individual expertise, experience and build real diversity of thought and constructive challenge.

We are looking for up to two trustees. Ideally you’ll have had some form of trustee/board experience either from the public, private or voluntary sectors. Ideally you will have both strategic and operational experience in one of these broad areas:

  • Business development
  • Marketing
  • IT and digital marketing and media
  • Finance
  • HR management

Specific Requirements

Overall, we are looking for the following experiences and approaches:

  • You know the charity sector, as a chair, trustee or a staff member.
  • You are committed to the FE sector, and helping to make it the most effective it can be.
  • You are interested in achieving this through improving the governance and leadership, and believe that good leadership can make a big difference.
  • Whatever age you are, you are still learning and keen to develop through new experiences.
  • You are collegiate, confident in your own opinions but able to blend into an effective team.
  • You are willing to be open-minded, debate deeply and constructively, not always win but be able to rally round a decision once taken.
  • You will bring and use your professional skills and life experiences, but be engaged and interested in all aspects of our work.

Core Duties

The Board meets four times a year in Cardiff. Meetings tend to last approx. two hours. There is flexibility to attend the meetings via video conference or Skype.

Welsh Language Requirements

ColegauCymru acknowledges the importance of developing and growing its bilingual service, and welcomes applications for any post from candidates who demonstrate their capability to work in both English and Welsh.

Terms of Office

If appointed, you would serve for a three-year term, with scope to renew for a further three years. The role is unpaid. However, we pay travel expenses to Board meetings.

How to Apply

Please send your CV and a covering note setting out why you are applying, what you feel you can bring to the ColegauCymru Board and what you might learn from us to help you in your personal development.

We particularly welcome applications from female and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented on our Board

Please email it to Julie Osman, Company Secretary
