ColegauCymru congratulates Mark Drakeford
ColegauCymru, Wales’ post 16 education charity, congratulates Mark Drakeford on his election to the role of Welsh Labour Leader.
During the campaign, ColegauCymru was encouraged to hear that the new leader recognises the important role FE Colleges play in Wales, as set out in his manifesto, not only as education institutions, but community hubs who provide a monetary return of £4bn to the local Welsh economy every year.
ColegauCymru CEO, Iestyn Davies, said “ColegauCymru congratulates the new leader and we look forward to his continued support for a sector that delivers so much for learners, communities and the economy of Wales.”
He added, “ColegauCymru believes that collectively, we must tackle the issues of skills shortages, promote lifelong learning, and continue to upskill people in the workplace. This is key in supporting Welsh Government policies as set out in “Prosperity for all”, and crucial to fulfilling the vision of a thriving country. We look forward to working with the Labour Party to secure a healthier and wealthier Wales”.
The charity sends it thanks to outgoing leader and First Minister Carwyn Jones for his work over nine years of leadership, and acknowledges the support leadership candidates Eluned Morgan and Vaughan Gethin have shown to lifelong learning, both in the campaign and through their respective ministerial portfolios.
